Luke 15: 11-32
Unfeigned: sincere, real, genuine, heartfelt, authentic, truthful and honest
The prodigal son
I absolutely love the parable Jesus told of the prodigal (wasteful/reckless) son that wasted his inheritance on riotous living and spent it all. With nothing left he acquired a job feeding the pigs. If that wasn’t bad enough a famine was going on and he became so hungry he had to eat what the pigs ate, husks. He was all alone and no one had come to his rescue.
He came to his senses the moment he took ownership for his actions
Luke 11:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have SINNED against heaven, and before thee. Can I get a witness? How many times do we have to go through a mess, and then confess, before the Lord will bless?
The unfeigned love of the Father as he longed for his son to come back home
The long awaited arrival had finally come. I can just see the father looking down the road and there seeing his son HAD COMPASSION, RAN, FELL ON HIS NECK, AND KISSED HIM. The father says to his servants, bring forth the best robe, and put it one him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet; 23. And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat, and be merry. 24. For this my son was DEAD, and is ALIVE AGAIN, he was LOST, and is FOUND. And they began to make merry.
The son repents and is united with his family with unfeigned love, but from one, his brother
The brother hears music and dancing. He calls for the servants and ask about it. They told him the details and immediately the brother is angry and jealous.
The father’s unfeigned love depicted toward both sons
The father sets the angry and jealous brother straight. Verse 31. And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 32. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is now found. Are you looking for unfeigned love? The purest form of unfeigned love is in God’s son, Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter if you are like either of the sons in this parable. Come as you are the Father is waiting with a heart full of love, compassion, forgiveness, restoration and for you to fall on his neck and say, I was dead, but now I am alive thanks to your amazing grace and unfeigned love . Please take note of the condition of the son and the indescribable love of the father when he ran to his beloved son. The father and son made a conscience effort to forgive, forget and move forward. No one can sustain a lasting relationship without a personal touch. I hear people all the time say, I love you, but they never want to see you or have a lasting relationship with you. Why? They are concerned about their needs, instead of desiring to give unfeigned love to those who need it most. Personal spiritual snap shot: Are you going to give unfeigned love like the father or will you act like the angry, jealous brother in this parable? I pray you will be like the father in this parable, and like Father (God) with a heart full of unfeigned love, compassion, and forgiveness and desire complete restoration.
